The Story About Grand Rapids

Grand Rapids, Ohio, originally known as Gilead, is a historic village along the Maumee River that played a vital role during the canal era, especially with the Miami and Erie Canal, which helped shape its development in the 19th century. Officially renamed in 1868, the town has preserved its rich heritage while evolving into a vibrant destination for visitors today. Its picturesque downtown features restored 19th-century buildings now home to unique shops like Angelwood Gallery, Antiques on Front, and The Garden Gate, offering everything from fine art and antiques to handcrafted home décor.

Grand Rapids offers outdoor and cultural experiences like mule-drawn canal rides, the historic Isaac Ludwig Mill, scenic trails, and fishing. Its annual Applebutter Festival celebrates local heritage with crafts, food, and demonstrations, making it a memorable destination.
